ARS ist neues Mitglied der Eclipse Foundation

Munich/Santa Clara, CA, March 23rd, 2009. ARS Computer und Consulting GmbH, IBM Premier Business Partner since 1994, joins the Eclipse Foundation as a Solution Member at Eclipse Con. The medium-sized software development, integration and training specialist underpins its commitment to Open Source, especially Eclipse-based development environments, Rich Clients and Runtime platforms.

By joining the Eclipse Foundation, ARS intends to shift from a consumer role to actively support and contribute to the Eclipse community.

“We were invited and present in 2001 in Cannes, when IBM presented the Eclipse project to journalists and analysts. They announced it to be Open Source. There it all started. More and more customers chose Eclipse tools and frameworks, so in 2007 we decided to refocus our entire training program to favor Eclipse based content and topics. As a service provider in projects and training, we have greatly benefited from using the Eclipse community’s achievements. The time is ripe for us to change gear and actively support the community”, says Joachim Gucker, ARS general manager.

The importance of Eclipse is ever increasing in ARS project engagements. This is not restricted to development tools, which are part of the daily business at ARS. Other Eclipse projects like Equinox, BIRT and RCP gain momentum there. Eclipse Equinox will certainly be a fundamental part of tomorrow’s application and systems architecture, implementing the OSGi framework and providing modularity and flexibility in larger Java solutions. The Eclipse BIRT framework for reporting is continuously replacing proprietary solutions and has obviously become a standard in most IBM software products that integrate reporting functionality. Lastly Eclipse RCP gets more and more popularity as platform for applications demanding Rich Client functionality on different platforms.

As a cooperation of ARS and it’s partner Instantiations the event series „Using Eclipse as an Application Platform in the Enterprise“ came to life, focused on the development of Eclipse RCP-based applications. At the recent Munich event Ralph Mueller, Manager of the Eclipse Foundation in Europe, presented the keynote and described the Eclipse Foundation’s work and mission. This was the catalyst for the ARS decision to join.
